The 2009 Ford Flex, Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKS earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) ‘Top Safety Pick’ award with their outstanding safety features, surpassing their closest rival Honda.
In addition to electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes, standard safety features on Flex, MKS, Fusion and Milan include:
- Six Standard Air Bags and Ford’s Personal Safety System®: Safety features include six air bags (dual-stage driver and front-passenger air bags, thorax side air bags for front-seat occupants and side-impact air curtains), safety belt pretensioners, seat weight-sensing system for the front passenger seat and crash-severity sensing.
- Ford’s BeltMinder®, a safety belt reminder technology for the driver and front passenger that takes over after the initial safety belt reminder stops chiming.
- LATCH: The Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren system provides convenient mounting points for compatible child seats.
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System: This system warns a driver if one or more tires are underinflated. An active pressure sensor with a radio transmitter is mounted inside each tire. A receiver in the vehicle monitors each transmitter, and if tire pressure is not within specific limits, it will activate a visual warning light.
Safety is a top purchase consideration, second only to fuel efficiency, so the top safety ratings and competitive fuel economy of Flex, MKS, and Fusion are a winning combination for consumers.

The Navigator, with systems engineering enhancements and slight architectural body changes, has increased its fuel efficiency by almost 15%. These significant fuel economy improvements puts the 2009 Lincoln Navigator at the top of the Luxury SUV Fuel Economy, ahead of the Cadillac Escalade, Lexus LX570 and Nissan QX56.
Overall changes of lower idling speeds and transmission enhancements are combined with unique software engineered to use aggressive deceleration fuel shut-off delivering fuel savings with no extra effort from the driver.
This complex fuel strategy is being added to many Ford and Lincoln products to help improve fuel economy and emmissions across the board.
While fuel economy is important, driving a Navigator is more about impressive luxury and many of the 2009 Lincoln Navigator features have become standard. Standard items now include:
- Power lift gate;
- Heated and cooled front seats;
- Heated second-row seats;
- PowerFold™ third-row seats;
- Front park assist sensors;
- EasyFuel™ capless fuel filler;
- Rain-sensing wipers;
- Perimeter anti-theft alarm;
- Integrated four-button key fob;

The MKS “landed” in our showroom a couple weeks ago, and it has been impressive. The Lincoln started with what could possibly be my favourite commercial, Starship’s Don’t Need Keys! It comes fully loaded with all sorts of features standard (such as heated and cooled seats). Plus, the 2009 MKS just looks great!
Cars.com’s David Thomas did a video review of the MKS and he commends the luxury sedan for it’s space and absolutely luxurious interier. Have a look: Cars.com.
For more information check out the 2009 Lincoln MKS brochure.

The system developed with Microsoft - Award winning Ford SYNC - has been upgraded with a new “911 Assist” feature for vehicle emergencies. The best news, there is no monthly fee! If you are in an accident that makes your air bags deploy SYNC will dial emergency services using your connected phone. The “911 Assist” will be available later this year and current SYNC versions will be update able.
Now, let’s get SIRIUS! Ford SIRIUS Travel Link navigation system will be introduced this summer in the 2009 Lincoln MKS. This SIRIUS Travel system offers uninterupted coast-to-coast coverage using the existing SIRUS infrastructure. (more…)
