Edmunds Reviews the 2009 Ford Flex

2009 Ford Flex in Nanaimo
Ford Flex Road Test Editor Brian Moody says:

Ford’s Flex is the right car at the right time. It meets people where they are, doesn’t require any compromises and somehow makes the familiar family wagon seem fresh and contemporary.

Personally I love the tech features like Sirius Travel Link and the new Sony audio system. Though they might not seal the deal with buyers, the nice-looking cabin, quiet interior environment, comfy third-row seat and decent driving dynamics will.

Ford’s not pretending that the Flex is a sport wagon or a touring hatchback, and for that I’m grateful. The Ford Flex is simply an alternative to the minivan and SUV, and a good one at that.

  1. I just bought a Flex FWD, SYNC, Vista Roof, Leather, 2nd row console with fridge/freezer, two tone roof and it’s awesome! Flex is an understatement and Ford’s insight on renaming it from the Fairlane was wise. Flex really does exemplify the capabilities of this vehicle. The Flex is an extremely practical people mover, something my wife and I label as a 70′s generation station wagon (because both our families had one) sized car on steroids. It’s second row captains chairs can move forward and backward improving leg room for either second row or third row passengers. At 6’1 and 215lbs. I even had to climb into the 3rd row to see how comfortable it would be. And to my surprise, it was very comfortable. Move the 2nd row seats forward and the leg room is better yet. The ride is firm but plush, handling is responsive, and road noise is almost nil. The engine is strong and it has lots of grunt when you step on it. The SYNC option wasn’t by choice but rather included because this vehicle had the closest available option package that matched our wants and needs. To say the least, it is pretty neat and it will be on our next vehicle when we buy a Ford. The look is bold and distinguished and I’ve had many compliments by my colleagues at work. Oh, did I mention the fold down seats are as easy as pulling one cord then a second cord? I’m just glad that by the time my family needed a vehicle like this, I don’t have to pull bench seats out of the back to get more room! We are soooooo glad that we didn’t have to succumb to a minivan and pay the outrageous prices that Honda and Toyota are asking for one new. If you are looking for a people mover then this is a must on your list.

  2. How cool that you used a quote of mine – I’ve been to Nanaimo and really loved the little town. Thanks for the honor.

The Flex IS a great car. I have seen it stand up to use and abuse without flinching – comfortable and durable it’s a great minivan alternative. Probably one of Ford’s best vehicles – Brian Moody
